Wellness Counseling
Wellness Counseling involves setting aside time in sessions to focus on achieving a better sense of general health and wellness in your life, whether that's physical, spiritual, emotional, or social. As a psychotherapist and wellness specialist at Berklee College of Music since 2005, I will help you identify why you don't feel at your best and ways to implement aspects of wellness into your life. This may include ways to improve your sleeping, learning how to have proper nutrition*, looking at obstacles to getting yourself medical help if you're avoiding it, and learning how to relax. Some people already have this baseline of health in their lives but want to go deeper, such as making a decision to incorporate yoga, meditation or some other contemplative or spiritual practice in your life. This is one of my specialty areas, as I was a yoga teacher for 13 years and studied with internationally known yoga teachers and respected, seasoned meditation teachers. I enjoy helping people create a practice of their own, including how to implement the time and space in their home to do so. I may also make referrals to nutritionists or recommendations for specific forms of practice that could help.
Relaxation Techniques - Techniques such as Breathwork, Visualization, Yoga, and Progressive Muscle Relaxation are offered within the therapy process, whether short- or long-term.
Sleep Hygiene - If you’re having trouble sleeping, your sleep will be assessed. If insomnia, you can find relief from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. For medical conditions, we can discuss referrals to a physician, including sleep clinics in the Boston area.
Mindfulness Meditation Group - A mindfulness meditation group is offered for 6 weeks at a time so you can learn how to meditate and create your own practice. Mindfulness, once learned, is a life-time skill that can help you manage stress, cultivate a calm and relaxed demeanor, boost creativity, and deepen your spiritual life...to name a few!
Join this small group to learn and practice this meditative skill based on yogic and Buddhist meditation traditions. Ideas tailored for you, as well as resources, are provided to help you create a conducive home environment and set goals for practice between the group sessions. Group limited to 6.
