About MePeople usually have the answers to their questions about their life within them. But obstacles block access to an authentic
place within oneself where our truer nature resides. You know your life best, but I'm here for you as a trusted guide. My name is Liz Bailey, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with more than 25 years' experience as a therapist, several years' experience in the corporate world, and a lifetime as an artist. How I workI offer a safe and open-hearted space to listen unconditionally to your situation, tell you how I can help, then most importantly, facilitate movement in the direction that will create the circumstances and the change that you desire by using a creative multi-faceted approach.
A humanistic and holistic therapist, I integrate the trilogy of: - Relational counseling using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS). And for trauma-informed care, I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Gentle Reprocessing, especially for pet loss trauma. I am trained in Gentle Reprocessing Level II which works specifically for inner child work. - Transpersonal therapy, including Eastern philosophies, mindfulness/meditation, acceptance therapies, and yoga philosophy; and - Wellness education, including yoga science, relaxation techniques, and other related education. |
Experience
Prior to private practice, I served as a mental health counselor and wellness specialist in a music school counseling center for 15 years, providing therapy and wellness workshops for students, and consultations to parents, staff and faculty. Students and staff attended my weekly meditation group for 11 years. I studied piano as a child and voice as an adult, having performance experience in various venues.
Prior to college counseling, I provided therapy in community mental health where I counseled people of all ages and cultures. My stress management trainings for the staff of DCF (Department of Children and Families, formerly DSS) on the South Shore helped them manage the stress of handling difficult child cases. Concurrently, I taught yoga class for 13 years and had a private practice providing transpersonal counseling and intuitive development. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the business world for several years, and engaged in life as an artist from a young age.* It was through a combination of yoga, meditation and an introspective process that brought me to an awakening of wanting to help people by providing therapy.

Meditation:
From 1992 to 1994 I studied meditation under the guidance of a senior teacher of Sri Chinmoy Goshe's of India, known as the Peace Guru, who held weekly meditations at the United Nations for their staff. In 1994 I became a serious student of Iyengar yoga and became a teacher in 1994 and taught corporate, private and public classes (and occasionally on yoga vacations) until 2009. In 2006, at the request of a Hopi chief, I travelled to the Hopi reservation in Arizona and taught a meditation class to the elders in their senior center. Since my early meditation studies, I have learned several styles, including visualization, Insight (or Vipassana), walking,
Qi Gong, chant, and Buddhist Zen meditation. I taught meditation to my yoga students over the years, as well as a weekly meditation group at Berklee College of Music for several years. I now integrate mindfulness and meditation with therapy in private practice.
Since 1994 I have engaged in continued education in several areas of psychotherapy and other bodymind therapy disciplines to contribute to the development and psychological and spiritual wellness of my clients. In my Bachelor's published thesis entitled
A Meeting with the Self: Yoga and Counseling Psychology, I explored yoga, counseling psychology and women's psychology, offering a way for women to use yoga in their counseling sessions to support their experience and bring them in touch with their
self. This is also an integration of my learnings in yoga science, Eastern philosophies, and other multicultural education.
