Counseling for Musicians
As a musician, you know you face specific challenges in life, outside of other professions. Along with enjoying and hopefully thriving on creating with your craft, you may be going through some things in your work life and/or personal
life which can be hard for non-musicians to understand. Imagine...being heard, understood, and guided by a therapist with years of experience counseling musicians! And who is one! Counseling for musicians includes looking at issues like:

Counseling for Music Students
Being a music student is an exciting time of life: learning your craft, getting to know people, being mentored by faculty and seasoned players. And then there's jamming and collaborating, and of course, performing!
The stressors are just as great: academics, dynamics in ensembles, proficiencies, composition, recital prep, and performance anxiety, Families are usually very proud of you. Some are struggling to put you through school. And some are disheartened about your career choice, preferring you choose a different major or attend a college in a different field. For some students, the financial challenges are steep, the college life and schedule grueling. Practicing and gigging on top of homework assignments, roommate issues, and finals is hard! Counseling can help relieve the stress, teach balance, problem solve, and be an ear for the needed vent. |
Parents of Music Students

Consultations for parents of music students, whether already in school or preparing for entry into a music college, may include knowing when to intervene for mental health issues; and understanding academic rigor, a musician’s life, future career, and associated stressors and anxiety. Parents understanding their son or daughter’s music education and lifestyle can help prevent problem communications and family dynamics, as well as set the stage for student success in high school or college. I provide recommendations to parents around these issues and can direct parents to the right type of administrative staff for specific issues to ensure as much student success as possible.
As a psychotherapist in college counseling in a music school since 2002, I am able to make referrals to mental health providers in Boston when students are studying in town. These referrals can also be part of this service.
